Ryan Walpole Enterprises + Windows 11.

Ryan Walpole Enterprises has always been an early adopter of new technologies within the Windows space. From our first Windows 8 compatible app, AeroBrowse Metro being released months before the full commercial Windows 8 OS release – to our flagship product, AeroBrowse receiving a UWP version on Windows 10’s release. We always strive to adopt new technologies in Windows as they become available to us. Sometimes, this works in our favor – other times, the features that we seek to adopt don’t pan out in the way we were expecting.

All of this leads us to a position where we have seen the ins and outs of Windows, adopted and evolved over our 13 years in software development. It is with great pleasure that today, with the announcement of Microsoft’s Windows 11 operating system update, we have a bit to talk about regarding the future of existing – as well as new – applications and how they fit into the Windows 11 and Windows 10 ecosystems going forward.

The Windows Store

Bringing RWE Apps to the Windows Store

The Microsoft Store on Windows is a trusted single location for customers to discover and install apps for their Windows PC. It is the location that Microsoft believes highlights, promotes, and encourages the acquisition of apps and content for the PC.

With Windows 11, Microsoft is making the Microsoft Store a comprehensive upgrade – expanding it’s capabilities for developers like Ryan Walpole Enterprises.

RWE and the Microsoft Store

Ryan Walpole Enterprises last released software on the Microsoft Store from 2012 until 2017 as Pudince LLC (before Pudince was acquired and subsidised by Microsoft and Ryan Walpole Enterprises) – including our entire suite of Windows Phone applications. Our software since 2017 has been largely focused on .NET and Win32 – platforms that traditionally were not hostable in the Microsoft Store. Over the past few years, Microsoft has made bridging efforts that we have been aware of – however making the jump has not been in the cards until now.

Upon the release of the upgraded Microsoft store on Windows 10 and Windows 11, Ryan Walpole Enterprises will begin the process of offering our Windows programs and applications to users via the Microsoft Store. This will include the brand new “Pop-up” storefront to allow you to easily download our software from our website via the Microsoft Store without ever having to even open the store itself.

Compatibility

How RWE apps will work on Windows going forward.

Ryan Walpole Enterprises will be thoroughly testing all of our software over the coming months as development builds of Windows 11 become available to us. Once Windows 11 is made publicly available, we intend to switch to focusing development exclusively on Windows 11. This means that all software we engineer will be designed for Windows 11, built and tested on Windows 11.

This being said, we have a commitment to continue offering our software for users that wish to not upgrade to Windows 11 for the remainder of the supported lifetime of the Windows 10 product. Until 2025, you will continue to receive updates for software as they become available. All new features released on an application in an update designed for Windows 11 will come to Windows 10 users as well. This being said, any newly developed software may only be available on Windows 11 going forward.

It is also possible that Windows 11 software will run seamlessly on Windows 10, the same way that our current Windows 10 lineup is only tested and designed for Windows 10 but can work in Windows versions as early as Windows XP.

As it currently stands with no modifications, the following software products will run on Windows 10 and Windows 11 without any changes:

  • GameOn
  • FieldMate PDFLink
  • FieldMate QR Creation Wizard
  • Moxo Studio
  • Shadpw Studio
  • FieldMate Online Services
